As a Search Engine Optimisation Expert, it’s necessary to not utilize or implement unethical and deceitful methods when doing Search Engine Optimisation as this can give negative impact on your site rankings for long term period. So to increase your rankings on search engine result pages, you should get rid of them and just follow the quality guidelines recommended by Google and other search engines.

There are several bad strategies you should avoid in search engine optimization and these are explained below.

Duplicate Content

Duplicate Content is one of these bad strategies. Duplicate content is when you build up content that you repeatedly use word for word on various pages of your Web site or when you develop many Web sites that use the same content. The reason why SEO firms utilize this bad strategy is because search engine spiders in order to be able to determine page ranking will depend heavily on the keywords found in the content of a Web site.

By utilizing similar content in different Web site addresses, bad SEO practitioners wishing to get rid of their competition by obtaining the first page of search results for their keywords will try to get all of their Web sites to occupy at the top of search engine results pages. Thus, this ensures search engine users will have to click on one of these optimized sites since these sites floods the top results for a given search.

Another way of duplicating content is by stolen content which illegal. A search engine optimization expert says that this is done by searching what Web site ranks #1 on a search engine for a particular keyword search and then copying the content from that successful site for their own use.

Keyword Stuffing

Another bad strategy, Keyword Stuffing, is making a page that is flooded with keywords that are visible to people that visit your site or using features such as meta tags and no-script tags. This strategy is bad because when you are stuffing your Web site with keywords, you are utilizing terms repeatedly all over your site without developing strong and relevant content.

Sometimes, target keywords that have nothing to do with your site but are popular among search engine users are used just to produce traffic to your site.

Hidden text

Hidden text is another one of the bad strategies. Hidden Text is text that is invisible or barely visible to a human eye. They may be concealed in your site’s source code or may take the form of text that is written in a font size too small for the human eye to read, or it may be text that is written in the same color as a Web site’s background. These tactics will flood your site with keyword rich text that aid your Web site to rank higher on the search engines.

This is unethical because you are deceiving the search engine spiders into thinking that your site is more keyword rich and relevant than it is.

Cloaking

Cloaking, another bad strategy, involves making a Web site for the reason of search engine submission and indexing while creating a separate site that is not available to search engine spiders but only to the users.  So the web site can attain high rankings for keywords that are not relevant to the actual content that users see on their site.

This strategy is unethical because your site is manipulating search engines and obstructing people’s ability to find the information that they need; thus, eventually hurting your site for users will associate your site with unethical marketing practices.

Doorway Pages

Another is using Doorway Pages which are bogus pages that are designed to accommodate search algorithms but are never really seen by users before being directed to another page. This practice is illegal for it is of tricking search engines to get a higher ranking. It is also a poor strategy for increasing your page ranking on search engines for they decrease the relevance of search engine results.

Link Schemes

Lastly, another bad strategy is Link Schemes. Though links have been known to improve a Web site’s ranking with the search engines; however, some sites have link exchange schemes that make partner pages solely for the sake of cross-linking, ignoring the links’ quality, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. Some of these bad link schemes can include Links set to manipulate PageRank, links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web, excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”), and buying or selling links that pass PageRank.

So if you want people to do business with you online, you need to take that your business is not associated with unethical marketing practices and should be presented in the most favorable light possible.

This is really a good material to ponder on. I encounter these bad strategies all the time when I am trying to search for something. I believe that when a site uses such kind of a deceiving technique it will end up being spammed which must not be the case. I do believe that a good seo service must be some kind of a white hat and thus becomes productive in creating more traffic to the site.
