The cake was a creation of Wayne Thiebaud, a known Los Angeles artist. Thiebaud, 89, is an artist recognized with the Pop art movement. This is due to his interest in objects of mass culture which are illustrated in his works which are exhibited earlier than that of Andy Warhol.

This is another newsworthy design used as the firm’s logo, along with the others used in the past, as the firm’s way of celebrating noteworthy occasions. The said work by Thiebaud was reproduced with the permission of the Visual Artists Galleries and Association or VAGA. There are also many other cake designs that that were made by the artist and most of them were painted in the 1950s and 1960s.
The first design the firm has used for its logo was the designed by the firm’s founders, Sergey Birn and Larry Page, to mark the Burning Man Festival. This was seen in Google’s home page in August of 1998.
There was also a Halloween doodle exhibited in October of 1999. This was the first used by the firm after it has switched to a new logo.
The firm has also used a customized logo as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the “buckyball” which is a form of carbon made up of 60 atoms. The design used by the said logo replaced the O of the original logo with an orange ball.
