September 15, 2011 - Microsoft’s web search engine, Bing, has just recently gotten a new design on its homepage.
Bing is formerly known as Live Search, Windows Live Search, and MSN Search. It went fully online on June 3, 2009, with a preview version released on June 1, 2009.
A New Look for A New Bing
A bit reminiscent of Google’s current homepage, Bing’s new homepage layout is now much cleaner – with less clutter, more mobile-friendly elements and the once left navigation — with all its shopping, travel, maps, etc. — are now running across the top explore bar.
As you can see, the “explorer bar” on the lower left has been transferred and is now located at the top. Moreover, the new Bing layout includes minor changes like the Facebook “Like” button is now found at the top-right — up into the homepage image, a bit bigger and more prominent popular now” links, and the appearance of an “information” circle next to the forward and back buttons on the lower left, which brings up the image info on mouse-over.
Though not completely aligned and can appear to users to be a bit of a jarring experience when moving from page to page, the top navigation bar is now much steadier with nav bars in each of the search verticals.
Bing has always made some test on its features, making tweaks to get feedback from the users.
As of this date, Bing has also run some other tweaks concerning an alternate look and feel for its search engine results page (SERP) some of its search verticals, with the main focus of a mobile-friendly interface.
According to a search engine optimization expert, these tweaks might hopefully be precursor of the full Bing HTML5 experience which is said to be coming soon, as this may generate a more user-experience framework that Bing then can integrate into the long-rumored HTML5 features. So watch out SEO services providers, be ready for the new Bing looks!
