As part of the unfolding new era of social search, the newly established team up between Bing and Facebook is bringing in new changes to their search results. Based on the Likes of a Facebook user’s friend, the search results are made more personalized.
As long as a person is logged in to his/her Facebook account, the searcher will be able to view the “Like By Your Friends” module that Bing is planning to add to their search results. With this new innovation, searchers might be able to see some stories that their friends Liked in Facebook. The said module might be found at the top, the bottom, or nowhere depending on the search’s relevance.
In the instance that a searcher is looking for a steak restaurant, the new Bing result will show not only the list of restaurants but the maps, phone numbers, and reviews as well. By including the Liked Results, a searcher will also be able to find out the restaurants that his/her friends like.
Bing is also planning on incorporating public information about your friends by using their Facebook profiles into the search results. Through this project, searching for people will be easier as their information from Facebook will narrow down the results. This is in response to the difficulty of finding some people that you know through web search. Through Bing’s results, you can also add a friend or send him/her a message.
With the question of privacy, Bing stated that they will not be sharing any information on searches with Facebook. Bing guarantees that they will only be connecting with the people that you know in your Facebook network so that they can provide you with the content that they have Liked.
With the Instant Personalization, searchers will be greeted by a pop up which will be asking them if they wish to have a personalized search experience based on Like data which are included in their results. It will be automatically shut down if the searcher does not want to make use of this.
