A good place to find and read useful SEO Articles and most up-to-date SEO News

August 9, 2011 - Google has announced that it has updated its tools for submitting a URL for indexing.

Posted in its Webmaster Central Blog, Google has launched a new tool titled “Fetch as Googlebot,” that allowed users to have their site reviewed more rapidly as well as to be used to clear out the currently cached version of your site.

From now on, Google says that users can use the Fetch as Googlebot Feature in Webmaster Tools in order to make Google find and crawl new pages and even an entire section faster than before, though it does not mean it will get indexed, only crawl it, according to a search engine optimization expert.

However, this is still good news to search engine optimization firms for the Fetch as Googlebot feature allows them to see a page as Googlebot sees it. So this is particularly useful as part of search engine optimization service in troubleshooting a page’s poor performance in search results.

How Does Fetch Work?

In order to use Fetch as Googlebot, users need to have a valid Webmaster Tools account and have added and verified your site in Webmaster Tools in order to use this new feature.

1.   On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
2.   From the Diagnostics section, click Fetch as Googlebot feature
3.   In the text box, type the path or URL from your website you want to fetch as Googlebot
4.   In the dropdown list, select the type of fetch you want.

  • To see what our web crawler Googlebot sees, select Web.
  • To see what our mobile crawler Googlebot-Mobile sees, select cHTML (this is used mainly for Japanese web sites) or Mobile XHTML/WML.

5.   Click Fetch

After the URL is successfully fetched, a new “Submit to index” link will appear next to the fetched URL. If you click on the “Submit to index” link you will see a dialog box that lets users choose whether to submit either the URL itself, or the URL and all pages linked from it.

Users can use this tool to fetch up to 50 URLs a week in submitting single URLs, while in submitting URLs with all linked pages, there is a maximum limit of 10 submissions per month. The number of submissions you have left can be viewed on the Fetch as Googlebot page.
