August 18, 2011 – Since Sitelinks was first launched by search engine giant Google last September 2006, when they were much more limited with just a single row of just four links, Google has continued to make improvements to its appearance and quality, ranging from arranging Sitelinks into a column of links for easy readability, doubling of number of links, creation of direct access to more of the site, increasing Sitelinks visibility for more results and continuously improving Sitelinks algorithms that generate and rank the links.

And now, Google has once again made improvements to Sitelinks, making Google search a lot more intuitive.

Sitelinks is a feature for search-based ads that lets you include additional links to other content on your site that’s not on the main landing page. It appears as hyperlinks to website subpages shown below some of Google’s search results meant to help navigate your site.

Search engine optimization experts from different reliable search engine optimization firms consider sitelinks to be an important measure of how “trusted” a site is.

New and Improved Sitelinks

Google has now rolled out Sitelink’s newest features that will both expand and improve their original “sitelinks” format.

Sitelinks will now be viewed by users as a full-size link with a URL and one line of snippet text, making it more similar to regular search engine page results (SERPs). This newest Sitelinks format is meant to make a user’s Google search experience a lot quicker and easier by predicting the section of the site users are trying to find and intuitively displaying relevant sections of the sites they might want to visit.

Moreover, Google has also increased the maximum number of Sitelinks per query to 12 links which previously was 8 links, which would reveal more about the websites user are searching for.

In addition, Sitelink ranking is now also combined with regular search result ranking to produce higher quality searches; thus, reducing link duplication and creating a better organized search results page.

Furthermore, the number of sitelinks will vary based on user’s search query, where a more comprehensive keyword search will return better results.

The latest Sitelinks improvements is set to roll out globally over the next few days in all supported languages to anyone using a modern browser, such as Chrome, Firefox or IE 7 and above.

The latest changes is good news for SEO company and site owners alike for having sitelinks increases their result’s visibility to users though generation of Sitelinks is fully automated, and site owner or SEOs cannot add or remove any. However, the site owners can make sure to avail of search engine optimization service that can make their site’s link structure is clean and sensible and that mark up their pages’ contents to help Google decide which pages need a shortcut.
