Recently this week, Google has launched a new feature for its Google Chrome browser that is aimed to help users find their desired search results even faster and in some instances, instantly. This Google Chrome browser search tool is called Instant Pages.
Instant Pages is Google’s new search enhancement tool that shows results as you type. This works by rendering pages before you actually click on them as it attempts to predict what you will click on.
Amit Singhal of Google says during a press event in San Francisco, “We save users a lot of time both with auto complete and Google Instant, but we’re not done yet,” Available today in Chrome developer version, Instant Pages will be going to Beta later this week.
How Does It Work?
Enabled by pre-rendering technology, Instant Pages is intelligently triggered by web search where when it is confident about which result is the best answer for the user’s search, it will render the page before you select it. Or in most instances, Google will pre-render the top search result on each results page.
Instant Pages’ Benefits
- Quicker Searches. Can save 2-5 seconds per search.
- Provides Smarter Predictions: Shows the top prediction in gray text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.
- Instant Results: Results appear instantaneously as you type
With regards to Instant Pages’ impact of the different web sites, Google assures that the vast majority of sites will automatically work correctly when pre-rendered in Chrome.
Google advices site owners and search engine optimization experts that if they want to learn more about how pre-rendering works in Chrome or how they can detect that their site is being pre-rendered, they can check out the pre-rendering post on the Chromium blog.
