December 29, 2011 – Great news for SEO company experts!

Last December 15th after much anticipation, search engine giant, Google, has finally launched its latest crawler for its “Googlebot Mobile”. This new Smartphone user-agent for Googlebot Mobile can now have the ability to crawl mobile sites specifically with a Smartphone user agent aside from its previous feature phone user-agents.

Google states that it has done this to increase their coverage of Smartphone content, thereby optimizing their indexing of mobile sites in recognition of the growing number of websites providing content specifically designed to be browsed on Smartphone. The information crawled will be used in mobile search in order for Google to provide a better user search experience for Smartphone users as the number of smartphone users are rapidly escalating. The new crawler will now mobile-optimize the content displayed on smartphones where it is specifically made for smartphones.

Basically, through its latest crawler, Google can now crawl and identify mobile sites more easily than before. This means that if the new crawler discovers content specifically optimized to be browsed on smartphones as well as smartphone-specific redirects, the mobile-optimized site will now be served up in the search results instead of the desktop.

Impact on SEO:  SEO Mobile Factors to Consider

The new crawler is a big break-through in mobile online search marketing as the user-agent update can now identify mobile content and index it separately from desktop content, removing the issues of duplicate content where mobile-specific sites that contain similar content to their equivalent desktop sites have been viewed as duplicate content by search engines. With this in mind, it is imperative for search engine optimization services providers to optimize their sites for mobile users.

Moreover, with the new crawler, standard inbound text links will now be marginalized as a ranking factor for the different mobile search types as through sharing a site’s popularity will be determined. Likewise, the desktop version of a page – especially if the mobile page is on the same URL as the desktop page – will still have the standard SEO ranking elements of that page.

How Does a Search Engine Optimization Expert Prepare his Site for Mobile Search in 2012?

A search engine optimization expert can enable user agent detection to trigger a mobile type CSS on the same URL as your desktop pages if you can have a 1 to 1 relationship for the purpose of consolidating link juice in the current search environment.

For those handling or creating a mobile site that is smaller than the desktop site, they can use an m. subdomain, which is the next best option for both smartphones and feature phone results. Make sure that these mobile results should be on the same m. URL, but triggering a different mobile type CSS based on the user agent.

Professional SEOs could also make use of semantic coding with microformats, especially address location tagging, and the formats used in HTML5.

Make sure that when triggering the mobile type CSS, it should also include the correct mobile format DocType. Moreover, make sure that your load time is minimized not just via page size but in network/http requests.

Finally, make sure to improve rendering and user experience for the sites you are handling by providing an app like experience with HTML5 and jQuery.
