September 7, 2010 – The introduction of rich snippets in 2009 has made waves in the interest in some of the genius webmasters to date. Additional mark-up to their WebPages to increase listings in the search result pages, has passed many interested minds. Using markup microdata, microformats or RDFa, search engine like Google is able to understand the content of the web pages and it gives a positive effect on this, and Google is able to convey the information on the page.

Using this, and the frequent updating of the webmasters, the effects are twice good as it gets. There are recent products that Google just presented lately and we wanted to share it with you as well.

Testing tool improvements

Rich snippet markup, if used correctly and managed properly, the rate of the new tools can be sometimes challenging and sometimes a work in progress. Google had added new error messages to the rich snippet testing tool to help us understand what are the things that needed a fix and further identify the issues of the markup.
If markup has been added prior to the creation of the rich snippet testing tool, it is advisable to first try it and test it again on the updated one.

Rich snippets markup for breadcrumbs

What’s good with breadcrumbs is that instead of the standard numeric URL’s that are seen on search page result, there are far better ways to understand what the website has for the searchers. The support for breadcrumb mark up format, allows webmasters to give a proper identification on the breadcrumb hierarchy on the pages of the website. Its alright even if the mark up was not done on the website, since Google will still show the breadcrumbs on the pages.

Events

Rich snippets for Events is another added bonus to the list of tools. A web page containing events listings that showed up in search results, there will be up to three link to a specific events that could be shown in the result snippet.
