June 29, 2012 – In the last few days, rumors of a Google update being underway are taking rounds over the web. Several webmasters were talking about it, though the chatter was high enough to signify a real Google update.
Just last June 25, Google announced via a tweet from the official Google account on Twitter of the roll out of their latest refresh to the Panda algorithm, the Panda 3.8 Update.
This data refresh, as posted by Google on Twitter, is said to noticeably affect only less than 1 percent of queries worldwide.
Also in their tweet, people were referred back by Google to their May 2011 post, “More guidance on building high-quality sites”, to offer context for those unfamiliar with Panda.
This June 25 data refresh was Google’s second Panda update this month.
A data refresh, according to Google, doesn’t do any updates to the algorithm or changes in the signals. As the name suggests, it just simply refreshes the data within the existing algorithm where they ran the algorithm again. Typically, only fewer queries are affected by data refreshes than algorithm updates.
Also announced via Twitter on June 11 by Google was a data refresh that was said to have begun rolling out the previous Friday, June 8. This one was said to affect less than 1 percent of U.S. queries and 1 percent worldwide. This June 8th Panda update had followed the April 26th update.
Typically, these algorithm updates for Panda and Penguin are rolled out by Google every month or so.
Although it was just over 2 weeks ago that the last Panda update was rolled out, it seems that Google felt they wanted to push out a new refresh.
Meanwhile, earlier rumors of an update were floating around the web over the weekend but Google said they only pushed out the latest Panda 3.8 Update last June 25 and not over the weekend.
