July 1, 2011 – Many search engine optimization experts have noted that Google’s Panda update have began to hit last week, even before Google officially confirmed it. They have been expecting the new 2.2 update as news about the update has filtered out of the SMX Advanced conference.
Finally, Google has confirmed the arrival of Google Panda Version 2.2 as it manually pushed out the new update around June 16.
What is Panda Version 2.2?
Google Panda Version 2.2 is going to tackle the issue scraper sites – websites that republish other people’s content on their own site. The new update will target sites that republish content that are out-ranking or being placed higher in search results than the original source of the content.
This scraper sites are usually making money from Google AdSense and, in the process, outranking content originators.
Google Panda’s History
Earlier this year, Google had launched its new algorithm called Panda update which is aimed to reduce rankings for “low-quality sites” and improve results on search engine queries that had previously been dominated by content farms that wrote professional SEO friendly articles that contained little actual value to users.
This first update has impacted 11.8 percent of U.S. queries and has caused a reported organic traffic losses of up to 80 percent to many unsuspecting online business owners, webmasters, and SEOs.
Google then launched a second version of Panda in April which targeted all English sites, incorporating user feedback (blocked sites) as a search signal, which was then followed by Panda 2.1 in May.
Though Google’s new 2.2 update might not impact as many sites as its previous major update in February and the succeeding algorithm change that occurred in April, it still shows that Google is constantly assessing results and is willing to make changes as necessary.
