January 31, 2012 - Google has recently announced that it has rolled out its new Panda 3.2 update, the first change for the year 2012.
One should remember that it has been over 9 weeks since Google released an official Google Panda update. As one should recall, Google released its last Panda update at the end of last year, particularly last November 18, 2011, though there was a rumored Panda 3.2 update during the holiday season but Google never confirmed it.
Currently, there are now 12 Google Panda updates, including this one, since the Google Panda update was rolled out last February of last year.
Google has revealed to professional SEOs that only a data refresh of the Google Panda algorithm was done with no algorithm changes.
Webmasters and SEO services providers observed that there were some sites who had lost their rankings while those that where hit earlier were seeing higher SERPs. This indicates that only a data refresh was undertaken by Google and not an algorithm change.
Though Google confirmed that there was an update in the past week or so, confirming it was a minor update with no new ranking signals, but rather just a data refresh of the Panda update. However, Google added that,
“We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of the over 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.”
Based on the reports of several webmasters and search engine optimization experts tracking the ranking changes of their websites, there were many high ranked websites who have lost their traffic and ranks due to the update made by Google. However, there were also pages that were hit by Panda that later regained their traffic.
The new Panda update may not have a great impact on SEO, but as Search Engine Optimization Expert, one still needs to maintain and employ better SEO campaigns as these recent tweaks is just one of the hundreds of Google algorithm tweaks.
