The release of Google’s content farmer algorithm, changing 12% of its search results, has been eagerly anticipated by professional SEO’s and webmasters. Google announced lately that this is the second – the first one aimed at scraper sites.
The goal is basically simple and that is to give the people the most relevant answer to their queries in the quickest possible time. Most of the changes which aimed at improving consumer experience were very subtle that most people don’t even notice them. The big boost of the algorithmic improvement to Google’s ranking impacts 11% of queries received.
However, this improvement is affecting other sites. It has to be that some sites will go up and some will go down. Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem. Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that’s exactly what this change does.
It is important to note that the new algorithm was designed to weed out shallow and low-quality content from its top search results. Content farms were seen by many as the target.
Currently, Google is evaluating multiple changes that should help drive spam levels even lower, including one change that primarily affects sites that copy others’ content and sites with low levels of original content. We’ll continue to explore ways to reduce spam, including new ways for users to give more explicit feedback about spammy and low-quality sites.
