True to Google’s goal in providing the most relevant results, it has now improved its location information. Location is one factor that has played an important role in customizing the information that the searcher finds. As an innovation, Google has now placed the location setting to the left-hand panel of the results page. This is to make it easier for the searchers to spot the location and control their preferences.
With the new display, the searchers will not only get view the significant results that they are looking for with the addition of the location display. It is now much easier to see the location setting and make changes on it if one wishes to.
Google stated that they have always worked on detecting the most useful location but has failed to get it right at all times, thus the need for the changes. It is also possible that there will be times when one will want to change the location to explore further information in relation to another area.
For instance, you’re working at Mountain View but are making plans to watch a movie in San Francisco. By simply changing your location to ‘San Francisco’, you can search for the movie listings or restaurants should you want to eat after watching the movie. The location that you can set can be as particular as a zip code or it may be as general as the entire country and you will still get the results that you are looking for. However, more specific settings are highly suggested for they generally lead to better search results.
For you to be bale to see your settings, you could click ‘View customizations’ in your result page while on modifying them, you just have to click ‘Change location’ which are found next to various search results like maps and movie listings.
This new interface is to roll out now and will be made available in over 40 languages. There won’t be any changes on how Google uses its location information so there is no need to change their existing privacy policies.
