SEOmoz has recently released once again its new version of the Search Ranking Factors survey for 2011.

Released every two years since 2005, the content of the Search Ranking Factors survey has been used and referenced by many search engine optimisation experts and SEO companies alike in the SEO world.

This year, SEOmoz declared that a whole new element of research was added to the recently released survey, which is the comparison of the cumulative opinions of around 132 SEOs around the world with correlation data from over 10,000 results in Google.

SEOmoz has divided the document into a number of sub-sections based on the type and focus of the data. Some of the main highlights of the latest search engine factors of 2011 are as follows:

  • Power of links has slightly declined
  • Google considers the domain in page ranking
  • Many search engine optimisation experts believe that no follow links can help in a site’s ranking
  • Search engines are getting better at recognizing quality content
  • after the Panda update, Google ranks better sites with large or longer contents
  • relevance of domain names are declining
  • Facebook may be more influential than Twitter
  • Total number of links is still significant in identifying order in ranking
  • Social signals have risen more in relation to rankings
  • more diverse links is important in page rankings
  • no followed links may in some way have positive impact on rankings
  • Long titles, long domain names and URLs are still a bad SEO technique
  • Keywords closer to the top of a Title tag has a positive impact on page ranking
  • domain name with .com extensions decreases in search engine results
  • Understanding on how Google used social metrics is still needed
  • Facebooks tops in the strongest correlated metrics
