A good place to find and read useful SEO Articles and most up-to-date SEO News

Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia, April 29, 2011 – Google has recently rolled out its Panda/ Farmer update designed to improve its algorithm for ranking websites and help people find more high-quality sites in search. This latest algorithmic improvement is said to have started with Caffeine.

Caffeine allows Google to index web page content on a massive scale nearly in real time. This caffeine has caused a huge improvement to Google’s index and its ability to crawl then index content nearly in real time which has become unprecedented in search engines.

However, the release of the Mayday update, which is closely timed with the Caffeine changes, has greatly impacted Ecommerce sites. The Mayday update is specifically focused on returning quality results for long-tail queries while penalizing shortcuts such as simply matching keywords to queries. As well as the Ecommerce sites, other sites that were also greatly impacted by the latest update were the sites with an architecture built around item-level URLs having on thin content and separated by several clicks from higher-authority pages such as home pages, major categories, or any URL with authority and unique content.

Then, the Panda/ Farmer update was released which focuses on concepts such as quality, authority, trust and credibility, and also incorporates user signals. Although the Mayday update seemed to impact a relatively small portion of the total query space, the newly released Panda/ Farmer update has greatly impacted the total query search, affecting about 12% of all searches.

Websites must be in an index in order for them to be rank appropriately. It is in this process that the importance of Caffeine to all these updates plays a part. Caffeine has partly allowed these evolutions in the algorithm, through its ability to index such an enormous portion of the web.

With these changes, SEO has been greatly affected. The post-Panda impact on SEO is that content indexing, as a signal, is no longer practical, simply because Google appears to want everything that it can get in its index. The index has lost its ability as a signal except that Google has the URL in its databases.

These then resulted to Panda impacting many large sites where indexation remained fairly flat while traffic from Google organic search plunged 50% or more.

The Panda update has caused changes in the SEO model. SEO now want only highest-quality, most important URLs indexed.

Search Engine Optimization experts recommend SEO strategies for Panda Update such as:

  • Determine which URLs are acceptable and recognizable then create strong signals.
  • Another is decide which URLs are your most valuable and then make certain that they are indexed and well optimized.
  • Eliminate any URLs that are irrelevant, overhead, duplicate, low value and unnecessary from the index.
  • Make internal links to acceptable and recognizable, high-value URLs from authority pages.
  • Use social media efforts, construct high-quality external links.

The new SEO has become much harder with for Panda driving for best quality stuff for sites and the complete removal of low-quality or overhead pages from the indexes.
