August 4, 2011 – Facebook now offers the “Merge duplicate pages”.
Just recently, Facebook has released a function named “Merge duplicate pages” for Fan pages. This merge tool allows Page admins to merge duplicate community pages created by mistake with their official page into their identically named official Page.
According to a search engine optimization expert, this means that through this merge tool, official Page admins will now be enable to roll fans from duplicate community Pages, including the content into their identically named official Page. Hence, if you have multiple Facebook fan page with identical names, you can now merge these separate pages into a single Facebook official Fan Page.
Why Should You Use the Merge Tool Feature?
Because you can only market your business on your business fan page, using Merge Tool Option lets you encourage users to like your Official Fan Page and not your unofficial community pages.
To eliminate unofficial Pages, merge with any duplicate community Pages with the same name as their official Page. Then report all community Pages that are differently named as duplicates.
How to Merge Duplicate Pages?
- Click “Edit Page” in the top right-hand corner of the your Page
- click the “Resources” tab in the left-hand menu.
- then select “Merge duplicate pages” link in the “Develop Your Page” section at the top of the page.
- Click the check boxes in the list beside the duplicate community Pages that are eligible to be rolled into your Page.
To qualify, the community Page must at least have the same name to the official Page. If you don’t see any eligible Pages, you can check back in a few weeks as Facebook may expand eligibility to similar but not identical Pages.
How to Report Non-Identical Duplicate Pages?
Since the new merge feature is only applicable for community Pages with exactly identical name as the official Page, you may not allow to merge the page. Therefore, Admins have two good options to choose from:
1. Report the Pages as Duplicates
2. Check back some time if Facebook will allow non-identical duplicate community Pages to be merged in the future.
This is good news for your site’s professional search engine optimisation and Social Media campaigns since this can boost your Page’s Like count with new fans that are eager for your content. This in turn increases the value of your Page’s other marketing efforts.
