FACEBOOK does it again! It’s really quite natural that Facebook sometimes become boring at some point. This usually happens when people can’t relate to what are posted at the moment. But recently, the leading social networking site has again managed to figure itself in an advocacy espousing stoppage to child abuse.

The move is attributed to a certain Facebook Pageimage credit to dvdtalk.com embracing said advocacy. But any connection or affiliation to any organization related to ‘anti-child abuse is still unknown as of press time. The move remained a puzzle as the National Child Abuse Prevention Month in the US isn’t until April of next year. A fact that made the Facebook post more mysterious thus initiating a snowballing effect among FB users.

As this developed, the move gathered more steam naturally. Interestingly enough, every Facebook user within the reach of said advocacy was asked to change their avatars to any cartoon character. Preferably, cartoon characters that are, first and foremost, the stuff of the chosen FB user’s childhood. Out of curiosity or for mere fun, majority of Facebook users responded to the call ultimately transforming Facebook into a gallery of cartoon characters.

Fad, advocacy or otherwise, the move caught on. People also started posting videos, montages, and pictures of ‘child-abuse situations’ bringing more credibility and a certain degree of poignancy to the plight of these battered children to the fore.

The move just expired yesterday, December 6, 2010 as Facebook users once again revert to their original avatars.

Whether the move will once again manifest itself in the near future, nobody knows. But affiliated or not affiliated to any advocacy groups, the move just showed that people are still capable of goodness within them.

It’s not enough to stop child-abuse, yes. But the gesture in itself is a glaring reminder of our childhood. A symbol if shattered by child-abuse causes so much pain and suffering.

Kudos to the originator!
