September 8, 2011 - Social networking world giant, Facebook, has now officially rolled out its “Like” Button extension for Google’s Chrome Web browser.
After Google’s launching of its official Google+1 Chrome browser extension, Facebook subsequently followed suit with it “Like” Button extension for Google’s Chrome Web browser.
Now, the two big social network giants are now currently in competition for Google Chrome Users’ attention with their official Google Plus One and Like Buttons, respectively.
Just within 24 hours of Google’s launching of its Google+1 Chrome Extension that enables its users to +1 any webpage on their Google+ profiles, Facebook has also rolled out its official “Like” Google Chrome extension that lets Facebook users to like, recommend or share content with their friends from any site they have visited with the Facebook Like plugin for Chrome.
Though this “Like” Button Chrome Extension was launched in early July, the newly rolled out Facebook Like Button Chrome Extension was most recently updated, which is said to be in the same week that Google rolled out its own Google+1 Chrome Extension which adds a +1 button to any page on the Web.
How does “Like” Button Chrome Extension Works?
Just like Google’ +1 button, Facebook’s “Like” Button Chrome Extension allows you to Like, share or recommend Web pages, images, videos and audio on Facebook even if you are on a website that does not have Facebook’s social sharing buttons installed.
Once the plugin is installed, you will now be able to “Like” a page by clicking the thumbs-up icon in the top-right corner of your browser, which will then reveal a drop-down menu, where the Like button is displayed. You have to click this “Like” Button to like the page. This means that you will actually have to click twice to “Like” a page, but a twist for this new feature gives you the option to add a comment to your Like. Moreover, the button also displays the total number of Likes that a Web page has received.
So when you right-click on the Facebook “Like” Button, you can now be able to Like, Share or Recommend the content of the web page you are currently browsing and also when you choose to share content, you can add a comment and choose who you want to share that post with.
Impact on Social and SEO Campaigns
The new “Like” Button Chrome Extension impacts SEO in a way that:
- Facebook users can now more widely influence search results with social data, so websites under the care of an SEO company, and which search engine optimization service includes creation of a Facebook account, can now have a wider influence.
- Facebook Like Chrome Extension displays a count of how many other unique Facebook visitors have liked the page in question so this will provide an overview of the site’s popularity with social network users, making it easier to increase the page’s ranking in social search and enabling SEO company to adjust and tailor its search engine optimization package to the sites SEO needs with regards to its page content that shows low “Like” numbers.
