February 21, 2012 - Social giant Facebook is set to bring its new Timeline profile pages to brands!

According to reports, Facebook is making its new Timeline format available for brands later this month. The current trend used by companies and a number of search engine optimization firms in their promotion on the web nowadays seems to be the brand pages in social networks.

At present, Timeline is only available for Facebook user profiles since it was rolled out at its F8 conference in September. Introduced to its more than 800 million users, the Timeline format made a dramatic transformation to its Facebook experience from a fly-by bulletin board and events site to a picture-heavy, scrapbook-like life streaming version that spans the users’ entire history on the social network.

At F8 last September, David Fischer,  Facebook’s VP-Global Marketing Solutions, announced that brand pages would still be “consistent” with the Timeline’s design and user-interface, but would not be exactly similar to the user profiles.

According to executives briefed on Facebook’s plans, the new brand pages will be initially available in beta to a “handful of partners”, and then be rolled out to more online marketers or search engine optimization experts in stages. However, Facebook declined to comment on the product or the timing though it is expected to go into detail regarding the new brand pages at its first-ever fMC event, which is a one-day conference in New York on Feb. 29 that is specifically held for marketers.

Pinterest, Facebook social apps, is now increasingly becoming popular and is already making money off of affiliate links to certain brands’ websites. So, it only makes sense that an increasing number of brands is expected to create their own customized social apps for Facebook users.

In professional SEO-speak, opening up Timeline will provide brands and their SEO Service providers some new avenue for self-expression on Facebook. Timeline will enable brands to outline their corporate history in a much creative and interesting way as well as enable them to take advantage of Gestures that go beyond Liking.

Moreover, with Timeline’s design that employs a large image at the top of the Page, this could make the individual Pages more distinctive than the old template, making it more attention-worthy.
