Foursquare is the latest social network phenomenon, according to the Wall Street journal. It is locally–based and lets people declare themselves as mayor of places they recently and regularly visit. Foursquare was founded in 2009 in the US. It is partly a social network and partly a game. It allows people to give their locations via GPS and lets them earn points everytime they log in. And if a person’s number of visits exceeds everyone else’s, then he can declare himself to be the mayor of that location. With these features, foursquare has well–established itself.
Recently, Foursquare announced that it will offer a major revision for iOS and Android users. Due to overwhelming competitors, foursquare has learned to cope and has tried to improve itself so as to remain on the web. It has managed to grow 3000 percent in 2010 as claimed.
New upgrades are introduced so as to answer the demands of its users and, at the same time, introduce something that no other network can offer.
Foursquare 3.0, its newly upgraded system, will add a new “Explore” tab which lets users describe the places they would like to visit and they can also receive local suggestions. These suggestions come from a pool of places you and your friends have visited. Foursquare is simply collating all the data in your account and recommending the best options for your taste.
The upgrade gives emphasis on the leaderboard. Users can gain points for more actions like trying new places, planning and organizing group activities, and connecting with old friends. Users can also view a weekly barometer of their running totals.
In order to be given rewards by business owners, a user must show loyalty to its vendor. But being the mayor is still the greatest honor and will let you get those rewards. Discounts or other specials offers are given by merchants to everyone. The Places screen will display a list of deals in your area.
This upgrade might be too much and may have a few glitches on the side. But you can just try it and see it for yourself. This upgrade can be enjoyed by iOS and android users for now. Thus, hope you’ll enjoy this for now while waiting for another upgrade to come your way soon.
