A good place to find and read useful SEO Articles and most up-to-date SEO News

August 23, 2011 – For quite some time, fake profiles of celebrities and public figures have been plaguing social media sites, from Facebook to Twitter and others.

Despite Google’s “real name” policy, which states that that users are prohibited from using nicknames and should enter their real name while creating an account for their social network, Google +, issues still abound. Accounts that had pseudo names and nicknames were still discovered and were taken down immediately from the network.

In a move to overcome these chronic problems, a new verification system was just recently being rolled out by Google+.

Google+ now boasts ‘verification badges’ for celebrities, public figures as well as people who have been added to an (undefined) ‘large’ number of Circles.

Designed as a way for verifying accounts for its users on its social network Google+, this verification badges basically appears like a grey Twitter-type check mark that expands to say ‘verified name’ when you hover over them.

Twitter has been doing this verification for years now and now Google has started doing this.

With these verification badges, Google will start verifying accounts of its users on its social network, and probably delete the fake profiles.

So when users visit a user’s profile and notice a check mark next to their name, this indicates that the user’s account is verified, and when users let their mouse hover over the check mark, it says “verified name”.

However, the verification process is not applicable to everyone.

According to Wen-Ai Yu, a Google+ team member, Google is focused on verifying public figures, celebrities, and people who have been added to a large number of circles. They are still taking things slowly and are working on expanding this to include more people in the future.
