August 25, 2011 – Twitter, the “SMS of the Internet”, has just recently unveiled its new photo feature that could to compete with the image feature of Facebook and Google+.

The free online micro-blogging site’s newest photo feature is called “User Galleries” which is intended to be used by Twitter users.

Twitter is a free online social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send text-based posts, up to 140 characters long, commonly known as “tweets” via SMS, instant messaging, email, to the Twitter website, or an application such as Twitterrific.

What is Twitter’s User Galleries?

Twitter’s User Galleries is a feature that aggregates the users’ most recently shared or uploaded images from their Tweets into an organized page — that is into the user’s Tweets in one place — for the user’s viewing pleasure.

This newest micro-blogging site’s photo feature should make the process of searching and finding images shared on Twitter a lot easier.

Twitter’s User Galleries Features

  • User galleries will gather together the images the user has uploaded from their Tweets and then place them together into an organized page where the user can view all of their most recent images.
  • The galleries will display images —— that are shared on Twitter through many of the major photo tools, such as Instagram, TwitPic, yFrog and Twitter itself.
  • Images — but not videos — are collected from multiple Twitter-friendly photo upload/sharing services that include Instagram, TwitPic, yFrog and Twitter itself.
  • User galleries will appear in the user’s Twitter profile page where the user can see a “Recent Images” content section and a “view all” link that leads to the gallery
  • Twitter’s User Galleries will display in chronological order up to 100 of the user’s most recent images in the user’s Tweets.

How to use Twitter’s User Galleries?

To use:

  • Go to your Twitter profile page.
  • Click on “View All” option. This will open the user gallery in your current window.
  • You can choose from any of these two options for viewing the galleries that can be changed in the upper right-hand corner of the gallery once it’s opened:
  • The grid view (featured above) will show you thumbnails of all images we’re able to display.
  • The detail view (featured below) will show you the most recent image, complete with the body of the Tweet displayed below it and thumbnails for other images above it.
