While much of the search engine optimization expert chats online in the past week had dealt with Google+, just last July 4, self-hosted WordPress.org has released its “faster and lighter” WordPress 3.2 version which includes some new and improved features.
Dubbed as ‘Gershwin,’ of which most WordPress releases are code named after well-known jazz musicians starting after version 1.0, WordPress’ new version 3.2 is dedicated to the noted composer and pianist George Gershwin.
For those of you not familiar with WordPress, it is an open source blog tool and publishing platform powered by PHP and MySQL that works exceptionally well as a Content Management System (CMS). It has a web template system using a template processor that makes it easy for anyone to set up, manage and maintain a website.
The newly released version of WordPress is said to aim to make things faster, lighter and more streamlined for it is noted for its admin feature updates, a new theme, and more.
What’s New and Nifty Features?
Some of the new features of WordPress 3.2 Version are:
- New Administration Panel with buttons, and icons that have been refreshed and a cleaner, and less cluttered user interface.
- New minimum requirement. As WordPress 3.2 has dropped the support for PHP4 and MYSQL4, it now requires PHP 5.2.4+ and MySQL 5. So if you want to upgrade to WordPress 3.2, make certain that your hosting provider is using PHP5 and MYSQL5 technology.
- dropped support for Internet Explorer 6
- Theme Options, where one is allowed to modify color scheme, link color and layout.
- Background which provides the opportunity for admin to alter background image
- improve speed with widgets that load much faster than before
- Improved Upgrading feature which is focusing more on upgrading only the changed (updated) files instead of entire package
- Distraction Free Writing that can make the writing experience faster, calming and lightweight.
